Request Money

Request Money is a way to get paid for something when you don't even have a website or where you conclude your sales "offline" (eg. by phone or in person).

All you need is your buyer's email address and you can use PayFast's Request Money feature to send a structured request for payment to your buyer.

They will be able to complete payment by clicking on a link in the email and paying via any of the payment methods you offer.

How does it all work?

All you need do is fill in the necessary details on the Request Money (under My Account) such as: Item Name, Amount etc. and click Send Request.

PayFast will then send an email request to the buyer providing them with all the details of the request as well as a link which they can click to fulfil the request.

Once they have clicked the link and fulfilled payment, you (as the receiver) will be notified by email that payment has been made.

This method is specifically useful to online traders and users of auction sites such as bidorbuy.

How do I send a money request?

  1. Login to your account or Register for one.
  2. Go to the Request Money page.
  3. Fill in the form(s) with the necessary information
    • Buyer's email address
    • Amount
    • etc.
  4. Click the Send Request button
  5. A money request will be created and emailed to the buyer

The money request will contain all the info you have supplied as well as a link which the buyer must click to complete payment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the buyer pay by credit card?

The buyer will be able to pay via any of payment methods offered on your account. If you are able to accept payments funded by credit cards, then yes, the buyer will be able to pay via credit card.

Does a money request ever expire?

Yes, a money request will expire 2 weeks from the date it was originally sent. It must be fulfilled by this time or it will lapse and you will need to create a further request if needed.
