We can’t believe that Leaderex 2019 has come and gone already, but what an amazing day it was. Our marketing team flew up from our Cape Town office to attend the yearly gathering of business leaders, professionals and entrepreneurs to showcase why PayFast is the ultimate online payment solution.
Throughout the day our team manned the PayFast stand where they got to talk to existing PayFast merchants about their positive experiences using our payment gateway, as well as engage with other entrepreneurs about the benefits of using our platform.
2019 marks the second year in a row that we sponsored the Ecommerce Conference at Leaderex. The conference ran throughout the day in a dedicated space across from our stand and, even though we thought it couldn’t be done, the invited speakers outdid themselves and attracted an audience who were literally bursting out of the conference room.
This year we were fortunate to have ecommerce guru, Warrick Kernes as the MC who engaged presenters and audience alike with his great charisma and valuable insights into the South African ecommerce space. Through concise 30 minute presentations the audience were treated to insightful peeks into the minds of some of the country’s most successful ecommerce entrepreneurs on how to start, manage and run a successful ecommerce business.
NetFlorst Co-founder and Managing Director, Ryan Bacher talked about the success behind his online business, which over two decades has evolved from a simple flower delivery service to an online gift store that caters for every occasion. On the success and failures of running an ecommerce business, UAfrica.com Managing Director, Andy Higgins and Owner of Digital Planet, Mark Levy talked openly about the mistakes they made throughout their career, from not charging for services in their companies’ infancy to ensure sustainability, to waiting to launch the perfect ecommerce website instead of launching an imperfect version and making ongoing improvements along the way. Our very own Founder and MD, Jonathan Smit also took to the stage to discuss everything you need to know about accepting online payments.
The Leaderex Ecommerce Conference as a whole provided invaluable advice on running a successful and sustainable online business. In addition to the above there were also great presentations focusing on setting up an online store, managing inventory and shipping, streamlining the accounting process, developing a sales and marketing strategy, and how to retain existing customers and build your brand.
We are already excited for our involvement in Leaderex 2020 and can’t wait to meet more of our valued merchants in person. Let us know on Facebook or Twitter if you attended #Leaderex2019 and what your favourite presentations and highlights were from the Ecommerce Conference.
