FACEBOOK COMMERCE IN SA WITH VENDORSHOP AND PAYFAST
Cape Town, South Africa and Dublin, Ireland, July 25, 2012 – PayFast and VendorShop today announced the integration of their services, paving the way for Facebook Commerce (fCommerce) in South Africa. South Africans can now set up a virtual shopping cart on their Facebook Page, run deals, offers, engage with fans and accept a variety of payments, processed in rand, which gets paid into their South African bank account.
“With VendorShop integration, we’re reaffirming our commitment to growth, innovation and continuously looking for exciting new avenues of online retail for South African sellers,” said Jonathan Smit, MD and co-founder of PayFast.
This is a first for South Africa where the entire transaction happens on Facebook and is done in South African rand. Sellers can set up a free shopping cart on their Facebook page, engage with buyers, reward fans, run promotions, special deals and more. Buyers can safely complete the transaction in a variety of ways with PayFast”.
“Businesses ranging from festivals to fashion boutiques, food manufacturers and charities have been using the VendorShop fCommerce marketing suite to win, keep and convert their fans to customers. Unfortunately until now, we haven’t been able to offer it in South Africa so we are very excited about this partnership with PayFast”, said Chris Small co-founder at VendorShop Social.
Historically, merchants would showcase their products and special deals on social media platforms such as Facebook, but the customer would still be prompted to leave Facebook, visit the merchant’s website, find the products and complete checkout there.
Now, with VendorShop and PayFast, the buyer can complete the shopping experience without having to leave Facebook, thereby simplifying the process and resulting in more sales for the merchant. Setting up a VendorShop shopping cart and registering with PayFast is free of charge.
PayFast is an online payment service for South Africans and South African websites launched in 2007. They make it safe for buyers to send money, easy for sellers to receive money and accept all major credit cards, all major South African bank accounts with Instant EFT, digital and cash vouchers. There is no charge to buyers to use PayFast as payment method and registration for sellers is fast and free.
VendorShop is a leading fCommerce shopping cart application based in Dublin, Ireland, which has received over 4 million rand in funding in 2012. They are used by retailers in more than 15 countries and power the Facebook marketing activities for thousands of businesses and hundreds of thousands of fans. For more information see their website.
