This module was developed by WooCommerce. Visit their website for integration support. You will need to be registered on PayFast to accept payments and get your merchant ID.

Recurring billing is available through the WooCommerce Subscriptions extension. To view your WooCommerce subscriptions on PayFast, you will find them under the “Transactions” -> “Ad hoc agreements” dropdown on your merchant dashboard.

On your PayFast merchant account on the INTEGRATION page, ensure the following:

  • ‘Passphrase’ must be set
  • ‘Require Signature’ must be disabled

How do I test in sandbox mode?
To allow for testing recurring payments, as well as order updates:

  1. On WordPress, go to: WooCommerce -> Settings -> Payments -> PayFast
  2. Insert the following sandbox credentials on the configuration page:
      merchant ID: 10004002
      merchant Key: q1cd2rdny4a53
      passphrase: payfast
  3. Tick the Sandbox checkbox to put the gateway in test mode and ‘Save’ changes
  4. When you are finished testing, be sure to add your live PayFast merchant ID, merchant Key, and passphrase.

Why are Orders not updating?
Please ensure you have added a passphrase on the PayFast plugin page and that this matches the passphrase set on the ‘Integration’ page, under ‘SETTINGS’ in your PayFast merchant account.
The following recommendations will assist you to choose and set an appropriate passphrase:

  • Exclude any similar looking ( e.g. i, l, 1, L, o, 0, O ) or ambiguous ( { } [ ] ( ) / \ ‘ ” ` ~ , ; : . < > ) characters
  • Ensure that there are no spaces saved before or after the passphrase, when saved on the plugin, as this may be add an extra invisible character in the passphrase

Why are Orders in “Pending Payment” when they are paid on PayFast?
On your PayFast WooCommerce settings, at the bottom, there is a checkbox for logging, please ensure this is checked.

If you have access to your host server of your website, you will find the logs files for PayFast in the following folder path: /public_html/wp-content/uploads/wc-logs/

You will see a log per day for PayFast and can investigate on a day-by-day, case-by-case basis.

If your logging was not enabled when your transactions occurred, please enable and perform a test checkout in sandbox mode to ensure that logging is working.

Why am I getting error ‘Signature is required’?
If the setting for ‘Require Signature’ has been enabled on your Merchant account, this error message will occur since the WooCommerce plugin does not make use of the signature at checkout. This setting can be edited and disable in the PayFast merchant dashboard on the ‘SETTINGS’->’Integration’ page.

Why are there no subscriptions showing on PayFast?
To see your WooCommerce Subscriptions on PayFast, you will find them under “Ad hoc agreements”.
WooCommerce Subscriptions does not make use of PayFast’s Subscriptions, but rather uses our tokenized billing (also known as ad hoc agreements), and WooCommerce handles when and how these ‘subscriptions’ are charged.
