The South African Landscape
South Africa is one of the most beautiful countries in the world – celebrated for its magnificent scenery and rich diversity. But, the landscape of our society is deeply marred.
The inequality of our painful past continues to trap people in cycles of poverty, excluding them from opportunities to rewrite the narrative of their lives.
Today, an estimate of 6,7 million (29,1%) of the South African population are without jobs. More vulnerable in the job market are young people with approximately 8,2 million (40,1 %) of South Africa’s 20,4 million young people aged 15 to 34 years are unemployed and form a significant proportion of the discouraged and not in employment, education or training (NEET’s).
Vision and Mission
Resolve’s vision is a society that view young people as assets and resources, and thus encouraged to develop their full potentials. For this to happen, young people require the tools, skills and pathways to opportunity required to improve their lives and catalyse change in their communities.
We exist to create pathways to self-sufficiency for unemployed youth by:
• Addressing injustices in skills and employment that impede the development of our young people.
• Inspire, mobilise and equip our communities to engage with and respond to injustices that perpetuate inequality and human suffering.
Our Focus Areas
The youth in our country face a wide variety of problems, the biggest of which is access to employment and basic social skills. Our skills development programmes are designed to address these problems head on so that vulnerable youth can find meaningful work, take care of themselves and reintegrate as productive members of the community. Our programmes range from basic training for youth with little or no education to more advanced job-specific skills programmes. All our programmes seek to restore dignity and self- esteem and provide the life skills needed to succeed.
Resolve develops scalable social enterprise ventures with a special focus on creating job opportunities for young people.
Our business ventures are designed to be fully economically self-sustaining to minimize our dependency on government funding to provide meaningful employment opportunities for our program participants. These business ventures focus on providing needed products, services and solutions for businesses and consumers.
