EcoActive Water Safety and Sports Development Projects
Background: Drowning stats shows ages between 11 – 20 are the most vulnerable . Therefore the water safety programs we present (in conjunction with Lifesaving South Africa ) to primary school learners is so important.
Our Learn to Swim programme is very beneficial as the swimming skills that they are taught empowers them to become lifeguards , open doors for opportunities and expose them to other sports and the environment and most importantly keeping them safe around water.
We target two new schools per year in our L2S (Learn to Swim) program and spend 2 years with each school. At the end of the 2nd year, we have trained a coach from our mentorship programme who will, in turn, continue the L2S program at the school. This is currently happening at Levana and Caprocorn PS who has included swimming as a sporting code - the first for both schools facilitated by the EcoActive team.
This gives every child an opportunity to be in the L2S programme, opening opportunities for interschool galas, and most importantly creating awareness of water safety.
This is our third year into our programme - + 300 kids were part of our LTS programme during school hours.,we introduce Friday swimming for stroke correction so that we can exposed the learners to others sporting codes like lifesaving , triathlons , scuba diving , water polo , surfing ect.
