Youth Unemployment Rate in South Africa averaged 54.21 percent from 2013 until 2021, reaching an all time high of 64.40 percent in the second quarter of 2021 and a record low of 48.80 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014. The burden of unemployment is also concentrated amongst the youth as they account for 59,5% of the total number of unemployed persons. The unemployment rate among the youth is high irrespective of education level. The graduate unemployment rate was 40,3% for those aged 15�24 and 15,5% among those aged 25�34 years, while the rate among adults (aged 35�64 years) was 5,4%.Of the 10,2 million persons aged 15�24 years, 32,4% (approximately 3,3 million) were not in employment, education or training, youth face extreme difficulties engaging with the labour market in South Africa.
