KAGISO TRUST

The Kagiso Trust runs two main Programmes,i.e. The Beyers Naude Schools Development and the Eric Molobi Scholarship Programme.

At the heart of the BNSDP is the quest for deepening the quality and confidence of educators in rural communities, as well as encouraging communities around the school to participate in the management of their school. The BNSDP therefore focuses on establishing good governance and management principles, which will ultimately form the foundation of the long term success of the schools affiliated with the programme. We believe that Kagiso Trust’s step-by-step and reward-driven approach with the BNSDP is the best way to achieve a lasting, positive impact on South Africa’s schooling system and wider rural communities.

The Kagiso Trust is committed to transforming the country’s economy through implementing supportive and sustainable education initiatives at the heart of rural South Africa. As an extension of the Beyers Naude Schools Development Programme, the Kagiso Trust has conceptualised, implemented and managed a follow-on bursary programme named after its late founder, Mr. Eric Molobi. The programme sponsors disadvantaged learners to complete a tertiary education degree or diploma, primarily in the property or construction sector. Since its inception in 2006, the Eric Molobi Scholarship Programme (EMSP) has provided financial support for education to learners who are academically strong and show leadership potential, yet lack the resources to study further at tertiary level.

The Kagiso Trust will launch the Bold Step Campaign on the 1st of June 2012. The Bold Step is an initiative by the Kagiso Trust to encourage the nation to take a bold step and get actively involved in changing the face of education in South Africa.

This campaign is a call to action for South Africans to contribute to education reform through Bold Step. It is time to build a new type of mobilization in education. We need to tap into the potential for public action. We have the opportunity to ensure that more young people have quality education. Quality education is imperative to tackling poverty.

The Bold Step campaign is all about purpose, hope, optimism, commitment, and the sense of urgency that inspires us and encourages us to step up and lead, even in the most challenging times. Moreover, it’s a chance for us to roll up their sleeves to ensure our youth get the opportunities they need to reach their full potential.

Jointly, we must:
Take ownership of the crisis in education today
Be the investors in society
Turn things around
Make sure more young people have a shot at a brighter future

Take the bold step by making a financial contribution, and thus giving the gift of education.
