Play Africa Group NPC

Play Africa is a dynamic, de-centralised children’s museum leveraging public space to catalyse innovations in creative learning, children’s rights, parent engagement and social cohesion. We equip children, families and educators for the future through play that ignites creativity, innovation and connection.
Based at Constitution Hill, Play Africa Group NPC is a proudly South African non-profit company (NPC#2014/101533/08), and Section 18A public benefit organisation (PBO#930048005) with tax-exempt status. We are a member of the Association of Children’s Museums, based in Arlington, VA, USA, the Southern Africa Association of Science and Technology Education Centres, and a delegate to the Science Centre World Summit, a tri-annual multi-stakeholder international summit to advance public engagement in science and technology. Play Africa is also a winner of the 2020 Real Play City Challenge, a global campaign to create scalable, replicable initiatives that help make cities more child-friendly, safer and more playful.
Play Africa is a pioneering African cultural institution founded on the values of equality, freedom and human dignity that underpin South Africa's democratic Constitution. We are committed to expanding access to creative, holistic learning that bridges the opportunity gap and prepares all children to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In the last year, 91% of the children, parents and educators we served were “Black” under B-BBEE codes, and 8.6% were children with known disabilities.
