Reach For A Dream - National

Reach For A Dream is an NPO that has been in existence for 23 years to fulfil dreams of children who have been diagnosed by a medical practitioner as having a life-threatening illness. Beyond fulfilling dreams, we reach out to these children through our 7 national projects. Namely - Queen For A Day, Captain Courage, Jabulani Kingdom, Camp Sunshine, Tracy Fun Centres, Family Focus Programme and Show You Care Send A Bear. We do not discriminate based on race, culture, financial status or any other factor. Each child living with a life-threatening illness is given a chance to dream.

For children who have been diagnosed with a life threatening illness, the magic of childhood may be lost in the emotional, physical and financial strain of dealing with their illness. Reach For A Dream tries to alleviate some of this strain (which often affects the whole family), by creating a different environment for the child – one that is not focused on her/ his illness. We would like our children to find their laughter again and therein find the strength to live beyond their illnesses.
Dream fulfilment – Through the generosity of our donors, our dedicated volunteers and passionate full-time staff, we fulfilled 1353 dreams in 2010 alone. In all we reached out to 30 000 children during 2010. Making these dreams come true is an enormous task for which the rewards are simple: seeing a child smile!
