South African Discworld Convention

Sir Terry is an English novelist who has received much recognition for his work, including being appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1998, a knighthood in 2009 for "services to literature", and eight honorary doctorates. He is best known for his "Discworld" series, a comedy fantasy series set on a flat world balanced on the backs of four elephants which, in turn, stand on the back of a giant turtle. The thirty-ninth Discworld novel, "Snuff", was released on the 13th of October 2012. Sir Terry once said of the fantasy genre, "Fantasy isn't just about wizards and silly wands. It's about seeing the world from new directions", a quote that accurately portrays the theme his books are based on.

As of August 2010, Sir Terry has sold over 65 million books worldwide in thirty-seven languages. His dedicated fans can be found all over the world. It has indeed recently been said of him, "Being a Terry Pratchett fan is better than being a Freemason - It opens more doors". It is important to note that Discworld Conventions raise an intense amount of international publicity and exposure for everyone involved.

In Autumn 2014 we're hosting South Africa's first ever Discworld Convention, a weekend celebration of all things Discworld. By all appearances, Sir Terry himself will even be attending.

Just a small note. All proceeds from the convention will go to our two charities, the Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) a collection of volunteers who give of their time and energy to combat dangerous and often deadly runaway fires in Cape Town and the surrounding areas, protecting lives, property and our natural heritage, and Alzheimer's ZA, the leader in the field of Alzheimer’s and dementia in South Africa, providing support, education, training and information on matters pertaining to dementia.
