In June 2014, Kerry Hoffman spent a day sharing soup and sandwiches with people living on the street. This proved so transformative that, together with volunteers – both homefull and homeless, she continued doing so every month and Souper Troopers was born.
Over the years we have built up relationships of trust and mutual respect with our homeless Troopers and we now welcome more than 600 people at each social.
Souper Troopers is now a level 1 B-BBEE contributor and registered NPO
(soon PBO, too)
We are laying the operational and systematic foundations to establishing a permanent presence in Cape Town. These include:
* setting up a central and easy-to-access human hub. This will be the first port-of-call for people looking for help reintegrating into society.
* profiling and tracking each person’s development through our customised Salesforce CRM system (currently we have a database of over 1000) to enable us to partner with corporates looking for staff and put the Troops in touch with the necessary social and administrative services.
* establishing social business initiatives to generate income for both the project and the currently unemployed Troops. We are currently planning a Souper Café, a Souper Market, a Souper Salon and a Souper Style outlet.
